A View From The Captain

"After a disappointing season have being promoted the previous year, I am looking to get promoted back to the premier division at the first attempt. Last season was very difficult having lost 2 regular players to the second team in Shozab and Adam Rana and nothing coming through the youth ranks to replace them. This season we have Dave and Nathan Woakes who I'm sure will add experience to the younger players who will make the step from youth cricket to the 3rd team. I will be relying on the younger players who will have thier chances this season in the likes of Brinder, Anthony and Alex Rose, Mo, Mandep and possibly a young but gifted Adam Picket.

I will of course have the availability's of the ever young and very keen Geoff Knowles along with Colin Smith and not forgetting the one and only 'Super Bobby Evans'. Here's to a exciting 2009 season!"

The third team, hit by a spate of holidays and injuries, turned to the youngsters and included 4 players under the age of 12 and 3 under the age of 15 for their match against Water Orton.

Dragged out of retirement skipper Evans won the toss and took to the field. Not deterred by a century opening partnership (L.Evans 129no) the youngsters took to their task well in the heat. Yash Patel bowled brilliantly finishing with 4-36 off 8 overs while Milky Byrne (on his debut) finished his 9 overs for 37 runs and was very unlucky not to take a couple wickets. Bob Evans and Waqar Ali taking the 2 remaining wickets. Special mention goes to Joe Griffith, whose unblemished fielding was rounded off with a superb catch, to Adam Nevitt for his skillful wicket keeping (cant remember a bye) and Pank Patel for his enthusiasm in the field and taking a catch off the skippers bowling!!

In reply Waqar Ali set the tone with a quick fire 65 ably supported by Yo Parvez (15) and Yash Patel (12). With batsmen 5 through 8 barely taller than wickets Water Orton crowded the bat for the inevitable killing - Joe Griffith, Adam Trevitt and Rikesh Patel had other ideas adding 25 runs but more importantly batting for 10 overs. Qas Haider hit a quick fire 14 before Milky Byrne (who batted for 11 overs) and a dour Bob Evans saw the team through to a deserved draw.

Aston Manor continued their recent good run of form with a 7 wicket win over Attock.

After losing the toss Attock decided to bat. Soon Attock were 25 for 3 with the ever reliable Dave Woakes taking the first 3 wickets and Qas taking 1 it was then left to the slim line Ian Prichard to mop up the tail with 5 for 49 off 13 overs. Special mention must go to Nabeel who bowled 5 overs for 19 runs taking their total to 155.

Aston Manor got off to a poor start with Nabeel being caught second ball for a quack. Big hitting Waqar then came in and got a quick fire 26 mainly from singles before caught. It was then left to the much travelled Mick “hamstring” Neville to carry his bat with a cultured 20 along with Nathan “I don’t do singles” Woakes to smash 38 not out to win the game with 20 overs to spare.

Aston Manor got back to winning ways with a thumping win against top of the league.

After winning the toss and putting Four Oaks Saints to bat, not to be out done by his brother Shozab, Qas Haider took 5 wickets, with the ever reliable Dave Woakes chipping in with a couple along with a new slim line Ian Prichard.

Special mention must go to 13 year old Brinder making his first 3rd team appearance with figures of 4 overs no wickets and only 7 runs helping the Manor to bowl Saints out for 92.

It was then left to Colin (I don’t do singles) Smith to smash 31 and Hardep to see us through leaving the Manor to win by 7 wickets using just 18 overs.
